Fall Yard Cleanup in Warrenville: Brush Pickup, Free Wood Chips, and Yard Waste Stickers
The leaves are turning, the rakes are out, and the yard is asking for attention before winter. If you are new to town or just want a refresher, here is a neighbor's rundown of how fall cleanup works in Warrenville, based on the city's own pages. Rules and dates can change, so confirm with the city before you drag anything to the curb.
Fall brush pickup: two Mondays left in October
The city runs a fall brush pickup in September and October. Your pickup day depends on your zone: Zone 1 gets the first Monday of the month, Zone 2 the second, Zone 3 the third, and Zone 4 the fourth. This month that puts Zone 3 on Monday, October 19 and Zone 4 on Monday, October 26. If a Monday lands on a holiday, pickup slides to Tuesday. Not sure which zone you are in? The city posts a zone map on its brush pickup page.
A few rules keep your pile from getting skipped:
- Set it out before 7:00 AM on pickup day.
- One pile of trimmed brush per address, no bigger than 3 feet high, 8 feet wide, and 15 feet long.
- Branches can be up to 8 inches thick and 8 feet long, with the cut ends facing the street.
- No logs, lumber, yard waste, thorns, or root balls.
Had a storm knock down limbs outside the schedule? The city asks you to send a service request to Public Works.
Free wood chips for the taking
Here is one of the best little perks in town. Residents can help themselves to as many free wood chips as they need from the bin at the Public Works Garage on Mignin Drive. The city says the bin sits at the north end of the street and is open around the clock. Bring a shovel and something to haul with, and be a good neighbor so the program sticks around. Fresh mulch for the garden beds is a great way to put the season's work to use.
Yard waste: stickers through November 30
Grass, leaves, and other yard waste go out on a different track than brush. The city's garbage, recycling, and yard waste page says yard waste stickers are sold from April 1 through November 30 at $3.09 each, and collection is handled by Groot on Thursdays and Fridays. Holiday weeks can push pickup back a day. There is also a seasonal landscape waste cart option, and Groot can answer questions about service and carts at 630-892-9294. The city does not post a separate leaf program on those pages, so ask Public Works or Groot if you have a big leaf-heavy yard.
A quick fall checklist
- Find your brush zone on the city map and mark your pickup Monday.
- Grab enough yard waste stickers before the November 30 cutoff.
- Keep yard waste out of the recycling cart, since the city notes recycling must stay clean of it.
- Pick up free wood chips for mulch while you are out.
