Fall in Warrenville: A Neighbor's Guide to the Season Ahead
The backpacks are packed, the evenings are getting that first cool edge, and the town calendar is quietly filling up with the good stuff. Fall might be Warrenville's best season: the preserves turn gold, the library goes full Halloween, and there is something free to do almost every week. Here is a neighbor's preview of the season ahead, with dates pulled from the official calendars. As always, confirm times before you go, because details change.
One last summer evening
Before we let summer go entirely, there is one more Concerts on the Commons show: Sushi Roll plays Bob Walters Commons on Wednesday, September 2 from 6:00 to 7:30 PM. Bring a chair, bring the kids, and soak up one more warm night downtown.
Where to watch the leaves turn
You do not have to drive anywhere special for fall color. Blackwell Forest Preserve and St. James Farm are both right here, and both are at their best in October. September: art fairs, resource fairs, and superheroes
The Park District's Art on the Prairie returns Saturday and Sunday, September 12 and 13, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM at the Recreation Center. Local makers, food, and a slow browse: a perfect early-fall Saturday. That same Saturday morning, the library hosts a Community Resource Fair from 10:00 AM to noon, where local organizations set up tables so you can find services in one stop.
Later in the month, the Healthy Heroes Kids Fair takes over the Community Building Gym on Saturday, September 26 from 9:00 to 11:00 AM. It is a free morning of health and safety activities for kids ages 2 to 10, and superhero costumes are encouraged.
Getting ahead of Halloween
Warrenville does Halloween well, and it starts early. The library's Halloween Costume Exchange kicks off Friday, September 25 from 4:00 to 6:30 PM: drop off a costume your kid has outgrown, pick up a different one, and skip the store entirely. Donors get early access Friday evening, with a second session Saturday morning.
In October it gets better. The Park District's Run 4 Your Life Zombie Run hits the trails at St. James Farm on Friday, October 2, a 1.6 mile zombie-infested run or walk that requires registration. And the library's annual Haunted House runs October 9 through 12, with quieter sensory-friendly hours on some mornings so every kid can enjoy it at their own speed.
Fall is not just for the kids
Grown-ups get a full season too. Puzzle Palooza: Adult Edition races through the Recreation Center gym on Friday, September 18 (ages 21 and up, register ahead). The library runs Medicare 101 on Thursday, September 24, a plain-language walkthrough timed right before fall open enrollment. And the Park District's Forever Young Senior Prom brings lunch and dancing to Courtyard Banquets on Thursday, October 15 for ages 50 and up.
