How to Do the Fourth of July in Warrenville: A Neighbor's Guide

The Fourth is nearly here, and in Warrenville it is less a single day and more a two-day hometown tradition. The Warrenville Friends of the 4th spread the celebration across Friday, July 3 and Saturday, July 4, so there is no need to cram everything into one afternoon. Here is a relaxed, neighbor-tested plan for soaking it all in, with a few tips to make the weekend smoother. As always, details can shift, so give the city's community events page a quick look before you head out.

Friday, July 3: the parade

The weekend kicks off with the parade stepping off from downtown at 6:00 in the evening. It is a true small-town procession: local school and Park District dance groups, marching bands, scouting troops carrying the flag, shiny new fire trucks rolling alongside the old-time ones, and floats from businesses and community groups all over town. Stake out a curb spot a little early, bring chairs, and let the kids bring a bag for the candy that always seems to find its way to the curb.

Friday evening: settle in at Cerny Park

After the parade, the party moves to Cerny Park for the evening. This is the heart of the 2026 celebration. Note that there is some construction at the park this year, so give yourself a little extra time to find your way in and follow any posted signs for parking and entrances. It is a good night to grab a bite, stretch out on the grass, and let the summer evening do its thing.

Saturday, July 4: start with the Firecracker 5K

Early birds can begin the Fourth with the Annual Firecracker 5K Run/Walk, which heads out from the Warrenville Park District Recreation Center at 8:00 in the morning. The course is a genuinely pretty one, weaving along the Illinois Prairie Path, through Warrenville Grove Forest Preserve, and down the streets of downtown. Runners, walkers, and stroller-pushers are all welcome. Registration tends to fill up, so it is worth signing up ahead rather than counting on race-day spots.

All day: family fun at Cerny Park

Once the 5K wraps, the celebration rolls on at Cerny Park through the day. Expect the things that make a hometown Fourth feel like one: a kids parade, face painting, sack races, balloon twisting, and hula hoop contests, with live bands taking the main stage and carrying rock and pop right through the afternoon and into the evening. Pack sunscreen, refill the water bottles, and plan to graze on whatever the food vendors are serving up.

The finale: fireworks at 9:15

The big show lights up the sky on Saturday, July 4 at 9:15 in the evening over Cerny Park (4S150 River Road). If you would rather skip the crowd at the park itself, plenty of neighbors find a comfortable patch nearby with a clear view of the sky. Either way, get settled before dusk, because the good spots go quickly once the sun drops.

A few neighborly tips

A handful of small things make the weekend easier. Arrive earlier than you think you need to, especially for the parade and the fireworks. Bring lawn chairs or a blanket, water for everyone, bug spray for the evening, and a small flashlight for the walk back to the car in the dark. If you can walk or bike in from a nearby neighborhood, you will save yourself the parking shuffle entirely. And keep an eye on the weather, since outdoor timing can move if storms roll through.

However you do it, the Fourth is the weekend Warrenville shows up for itself. Find a curb, find some neighbors, and enjoy the show.
