Your Week Ahead in Warrenville: August 3 - 9
Good morning, Warrenville. This is the big one. Summer Daze lands Friday and Saturday, National Night Out fills Cerny Park on Tuesday, and there is still a concert on the Commons in between. If you only clear one weekend on the calendar all summer, make it this one. Details can change, so give the official link a quick look before you head out.
Monday, August 3: Storytime at Starbucks
The library takes storytime on the road to the Starbucks on Diehl Road at 10:00 in the morning, with a free hot chocolate or lemonade for the kids. A gentle way to start a busy week. City Council also meets at 6:30 at City Hall if you like to keep tabs on town business.
Tuesday, August 4: National Night Out Against Crime
The Warrenville Police Department hosts National Night Out at the Cerny Park Pavilion from 5:00 to 9:00. Food, kids' activities, touch-a-truck, music, and giveaways, all free. It is one of the easiest nights of the year to meet your neighbors and the people who look after the town, and the kids will talk about the fire truck for a week.
Wednesday, August 5: Concerts on the Commons with Sushi Roll
Sushi Roll brings pop, rock, and dance covers to Bob Walters Commons from 7:00 to 8:30. Free, outdoors, right next to the library. Bring a lawn chair and a picnic (no alcohol) and let the kids run around on the grass. Earlier in the day the library has a New Parent Playdate at 10:30 and Book Bites for grades 1 through 3 at 4:30.
Thursday, August 6: First Thursday Book Club
The adult book club takes on The Nickel Boys by Colson Whitehead at 7:30. If you missed the discussion copy, Warrenville cardholders can ask at the Member Services desk. Craft Club for grades 4 through 6 runs at 4:30 the same afternoon.
Friday, August 7: Summer Daze opens
Summer Daze opens at the City Hall complex from 5:00 to 11:00 with live music, food, drinks, rides, and games. Friday night is the warm-up and it is usually the easier of the two nights to park. The library also has Friday Crafts to Go all day and a 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten graduation storytime at 6:00 for the little ones who finished the challenge.
Saturday, August 8: Summer Daze all day, plus the Car Show
Summer Daze runs from 9:00 in the morning until 11:00 at night, and the Summer Daze Car Show takes over from 9:00 to 2:30. Go early if you want to actually see the cars before the festival crowd builds. If you need a quieter corner of the day, the library runs a beginner-friendly adult Dungeons & Dragons session from 1:30 to 4:30, no experience required.
Sunday, August 9: take the day off
Nothing on the calendar, which after a Summer Daze weekend is exactly right. Sleep in, take a walk on the prairie path, and let the town catch its breath.
Looking ahead
Two more Wednesdays of Concerts on the Commons remain: The Prissillas on August 12 and The Polkaholics on August 19, and then the summer series is done. Back-to-school programming picks up mid-month with a Kindergarten Party on August 11 and the School Dance Dress Swap on August 21 and 22. After that, fall arrives with Art on the Prairie on September 12 and 13.
