Your Week Ahead in Warrenville: August 14 - 20
Happy Friday, Warrenville. The summer concert series is down to its last night on the Commons, the library has a genuinely full slate of free programs, and dress swap season starts next weekend. Here is what is worth putting on the calendar over the next seven days. Details shift, so give the official link a quick look before you head out.
Friday, August 14: Movie matinee and Panels & Pages
The library hosts a free afternoon showing of F1 for adults from 12:00 to 3:00 in the meeting room, with registration through the library site. Later on, teens in grades 6 through 12 can drop into Panels & Pages in the Teen Lounge from 4:30 to 6:00 and work on comics, poetry, or fanfiction alongside other writers and artists.
Saturday, August 15: Cuentos en la lavanderÃa
A youth services librarian sets up at the laundromat at 2S533 Illinois Route 59 from 11:00 to noon for bilingual stories and library information. Todas las edades bienvenidas. It is a small piece of outreach and a good one, meeting people where they already are on a Saturday morning.
Sunday, August 16: A quiet one
Nothing on the public calendar, which makes it a fine morning for the Illinois Prairie Path or a slow walk through Cerny Park before the week starts again.
Monday, August 17: Nature stories and the Writers Connection
A Lincoln Marsh naturalist brings a nature story and a hands-on activity to the library at 10:00 for kids ages 2 to 5, and it only runs a half hour, which is about right for that age. In the evening the Warrenville Writers Connection meets at 7:00 for adults working on fiction, nonfiction, poetry, or short stories. City Council also meets at 6:30 at City Hall if you like to keep tabs on town business.
Tuesday, August 18: Board Game Night
Medici is the featured title at the library from 6:00 to 8:30, though you are welcome to bring your own game instead. Adults only, and registration goes through the library.
Wednesday, August 19: The last Concert on the Commons
The Polkaholics close out the summer series at Bob Walters Commons from 7:00 to 8:30. Polka punk rock, free, outdoors, and loud in the best way. Bring a chair and a picnic (no alcohol) and settle in next to the library. Earlier that morning at 10:30, The Morton Arboretum visits with a play-and-discover session on the seasons for kids ages 3 to 6.
Thursday, August 20: Late Summer and Fall Garden Colors
University of Illinois Extension walks through perennials, ornamental grasses, and the trees and shrubs that keep a yard looking good well into fall. It runs 7:00 to 8:00 at the library, free for adults, and registration is required.
Looking ahead
Next weekend the library runs its School Dance Dress Swap on Friday evening and Saturday, in time for homecoming season. Donors who bring in gently worn teen dresses get first look. After that the calendar takes a breath until Art on the Prairie on September 12 and 13, the weekend that unofficially starts fall around here.
