Your Week Ahead in Warrenville: June 29 - July 5
This is the week Warrenville circles on the calendar. The Fourth of July lands on Saturday, and the celebration spreads across two days, so there is no need to cram it all into one afternoon. Here is a relaxed plan for the week, with a couple of quieter things to do before the fireworks. As always, details can change, so it is worth a quick check of the official link before you head out.
Tuesday, June 30: Storytime at Cerny Park
Start the week with a free all-ages Storytime at the Cerny Park Pavilion at 10:00 in the morning. It is an easy, sweet outing for the little ones. Storytimes sometimes move indoors to the library or shift with the weather, so check before you load up the stroller.
Friday, July 3: the parade and Cerny Park
The Fourth of July Parade steps off at 6:00 in the evening, running from Warren Avenue and Tracy Place down to Cerny Park. Expect local school and dance groups, scouts, fire trucks old and new, and floats from around town. Stake out a curb spot a little early and let the kids bring a bag for the candy. After the parade, the party settles in at Cerny Park through the evening (6:00 to 11:00). Note that there is construction at the park this year, so give yourself extra time to find parking and follow the posted signs.
Saturday, July 4: 5K, festival, and fireworks
Early risers can kick off the Fourth with the Firecracker 5K Run/Walk, which heads out from the Warrenville Park District Recreation Center at 8:00 in the morning along the Illinois Prairie Path and through Warrenville Grove. From noon on, Cerny Park fills up with a kids parade, games, food, and live music straight through the afternoon and into the evening, capped by the fireworks after dark. Bring chairs, water, sunscreen for the day and bug spray for the night, and settle in before dusk for a good view. For a fuller game plan, we wrote up a neighbor's guide to the Fourth in Warrenville.
One heads-up for the weekend: the library is closed Saturday, July 4 and Sunday, July 5 for the holiday.
Looking ahead
Once the confetti settles, the library's free Concerts on the Commons series picks back up on Wednesday, July 8 with the Abby Kay Band at Bob Walters Commons, and the Park District's Unplug Illinois picnic follows on July 11. Plenty of good, free summer nights still ahead.
Have a safe and happy Fourth, Warrenville. We will see you at the parade.
